These are strong, sturdy dogs with an attitude to match. Standing at about 23 to 27.5 inches high and reaching 100 pounds, the Cane Corso is an intelligent and eager dog that requires early training and socialization. To match their size and energy level, these dogs are best suited to larger homes with outdoor access. Very loyal to human family members, the Cane Corso is happy to live alongside loving owners of all ages, though owners should take care when kids are around puppies that are still in obedience school.

Like they say, Texas is big on everything—including dogs. Doggies vacationing in the Lone Star State can look forward to wide-open vistas, plentiful parks and beaches, and welcoming accommodations. Whether you and your dog are into the shopping and café scene of urban modernity, or you prefer hiking trails and campgrounds, you’ll never run out of fun things to do in Texas. Nature lovers can check out the Barton Creek Greenbelt Preserve in Austin, the Arboretum and Nature Center in Houston, or the Palo Curo Canyon State Park. Dogs should be on-leash, but they are welcome to hike and stay alongside their owners in outdoor public spaces.
The Blue Lacy has been Texas’ official state dog since 2005.
The most popular breed of dog among pet owners in Texas is the Golden Retriever.
Mutt’s Canine Cantina, with locations throughout Texas, features a restaurant-adjacent dog park and menu items for your canine companions!

Yes — Cane Corsos are loyal, protective, and wonderful family companions when given proper training and socialization. Their calm and affectionate nature makes them great with children in the home. Learn more in our guide: Are Cane Corsos Good Family Dogs?
Cane Corsos have short coats but still need access to shade, cool water, and air-conditioned spaces in Texas’s hot climate. Exercise should be scheduled for early morning or late evening to avoid excessive heat exposure.
In Texas, Cane Corso puppies typically range from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on breeder reputation, lineage, and coat color. Puppies from show or working lines, especially rare colors, may be priced higher.
