This breed descends from Japan’s mountainous regions. In fact, “Inu” means “Dog” in Japanese. These dogs are keen and alert, making for wonderful hunting dogs. They can be quite the charmers too with their confident personalities. They also love to be active and make for a wonderful hiking companion! Shiba Inu’s do well in all types of environments but their favorite is the mountainous outdoors. They are great for all types of owners, whether single young adults, or bigger families. They live to be about 15 years old and grow to about 15 to 25 lbs.

There are 600,000 pet dogs in New York City alone—plus 400,000 pet cats. The first official dog park in NYC was Tompkins Square Dog Run, opened in 1990. Tompkins is an off-leash haven for the city’s canines, featuring wading pools in the summer and two designated play areas for large dogs and small dogs. Outside of the state’s capital city, you can chill with Fido on the dog-friendly beaches, B&B getaways, campsites and countless eateries. New Yorkers stand out as usual with their unique taste, their favourite dog breed being the Cockapoo! That’s a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, and just the right size and temperament for apartment living.
New York City has more than 20 registered dog spas.
