The German Wirehaired Pointer grows up to 68 centimetres in height and can weigh up to 32 kilograms. Bred as a hunting companion, these dogs are strong and full of energy. They love outdoor activities and would be happiest with an owner or family who also enjoys spending time in nature. Playful and fun-loving with the people who love them, German Wirehaired Pointers need constant fulfilling play and won’t be happy simply sitting around the house. Their thick, tough coat protects them from thorns and brambles and lets them weather cold climates with ease.

There are 600,000 pet dogs in New York City alone—plus 400,000 pet cats. The first official dog park in NYC was Tompkins Square Dog Run, opened in 1990. Tompkins is an off-leash haven for the city’s canines, featuring wading pools in the summer and two designated play areas for large dogs and small dogs. Outside of the state’s capital city, you can chill with Fido on the dog-friendly beaches, B&B getaways, campsites and countless eateries. New Yorkers stand out as usual with their unique taste, their favourite dog breed being the Cockapoo! That’s a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, and just the right size and temperament for apartment living.
New York City has more than 20 registered dog spas.
