As its name suggests, the Working Kelpie is a working dog bred for herding sheep. This breed originated in Scotland and was brought to Australia in the 1800s where it became popular for herding sheep and cattle. Kelpies are highly intelligent and companionable, and require significant attention and companionship. They are not dogs to be left alone outside. Their intelligence and active lifestyle makes them excellent police dogs and search & rescue dogs, and they are also sometimes used for sledding.
