The roots of the Tibetan Mastiff are so ancient and mysterious, it's believed by many to be the original Mastiff breed that eventually spawned various Mastiffs across Europe and Western Asia. Reaching at least 24 inches high at the shoulder and weighing between 70 and 150 pounds, the Tibetan Mastiff is an intimidating giant from any angle. As huge and strong as they are, these dogs devote themselves to family members and display a calm temperament. Because of their size, these dogs are best for adults and experienced dog owners.

The stunning and culturally rich state of West Virginia truly has something for everyone who lives here or visits. Even pets can partake in many of this state’s events and attractions! Dogs are welcome in all kinds of places, from trails at Whitegrass in Davis to the Perfect Spot for surfing at Gauley River. Active dogs will love the trails at New River Gorge and playtime in the water at Greenbrier River. Social canines are very welcome to join their owners for a bite to eat at many of West Virginia’s outdoor dining establishments, and don’t forget to take in some local culture at the Mothman Museum!
Though West Virginia does not have an official state dog, the shelter dog has been nominated for the position.
The favourite dog breeds in this state are Labs, German Shepherds and Beagles.
