Spanish Water Dogs are members of the dog herding group, and have a documented history of more than 100 years. They were originally used by farmers for herding in less affluent regions of Spain, and also by fishermen as assistants in northern Spain. Spanish Water Dogs form strong bonds with their owners, acting as "Velcro dogs" that gravitate towards a favorite family member. They are affectionate, intelligent and active, but exhibit cautiousness with strangers.
