The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a large, robust breed from Portugal, known for its impressive guarding instincts and gentle nature. These dogs are loyal companions, often serving as livestock guardians. With a calm demeanor, they are good with families and children, but their strong-willed temperament requires experienced handling. Rafeiros are relatively low-maintenance in grooming, needing only occasional brushing, making them suitable for active households that appreciate their protective qualities and affectionate disposition.

Thanks to the friendly restaurateurs of the Show-Me State, you and your doggy are welcome to enjoy the outdoor seating sections of multiple cafés, wineries, delis, burger joints and doughnut shops. Pups can run, play and swim at the Garth Nature Area in Columbia, or socialize and get some fresh air at off-leash dog parks across the state. Outdoorsy dogs and their families can also set up camp at St. Louis West Historic Route 66 KOA, The Family Campground on Buren River, Mark Twain Cave Campground and many other idyllic natural landscapes throughout Missouri.
