Also known as Canary Mastiffs, these dogs were bred a century or so ago as guard dogs and herding dogs. As pets, they still require a lot of space to run around and exercise. The Presa Canario stands about 56 to 66 centimetres high and weighs between 40 and 65 kilograms. Noted for its stocky, powerful body, short snout, and small pointed ears, the Presa Canario is an independent breed best suited to experienced dog owners.
