The Otterhound is a large-sized dog breed that was developed in England to hunt—surprise, surprise, otters! These dogs weigh between 65-120 pounds as adults, and have a shaggy, warm double coat that is typically a mix of black, grey and white. The Otterhound is a rare breed known for its stamina and excellent sense of smell. As natural hunters, Otterhounds need daily exercise and regular outdoor play. A bit shy around strangers, these dogs are affectionate with family and friends.

Michigan is a fun place to own a dog, thanks to all kinds of dog-friendly eateries, hotels, businesses and leisure spots. Go hiking, take a tour, get something to eat and go camping together with your dog—and bring family and friends too, if you want. Dog lovers in Michigan prefer Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers over most other breeds, but there’s plenty of variety in the state’s more than 2 million pet dogs. About 35 percent of households in this state have at least one dog, compared with 31 percent who have at least one cat.
