This pint-sized cross between the Maltese and the Pomeranian reaches between 7-8 pounds fully-grown. Gentle and clever, the Maltipom is very protective of its territory and family, and therefore prone to barking. These dogs are usually leery of strangers and need training to help them learn not to bark too much at visitors or passersby. Maltipoms have luxuriously thick, long straight coats that need daily brushing and regular clipping to stay neat. This Toy breed is great for smaller homes.

The Pennsylvania state dog is none other than the regal and formidable Great Dane, a dog breed that worked hard alongside its early European settler companions. The state legislature formalized the standing of the state dog in 1965, stating: "...WHEREAS, the physical and other attributes of the Great Dane, to wit: size, strength, beauty, intelligence, tolerance, courage, faithfulness, trustworthiness and stability exemplify those of Pennsylvania.” As for the household dog owners of Pennsylvania, their other favourites include Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and German Shepherds, plus a host of Doodle Dogs. Dog owners in the Keystone State enjoy access to miles and miles of dog-friendly hiking trails.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows has been an (almost) annual event since 1879.
Pennsylvania allows dogs at more than 50 of its state parks.
