The affectionate Lhasa Apso weighs between 12 and 18 pounds fully grown, making it a popular apartment dog. Originally, these mountain dogs worked as watchdogs in the palaces and religious centres of Tibet. Characterized by very long fur from its snout to its tail, the Lhasa Apso needs careful daily grooming to keep that coat from tangling. These dogs are loyal and devoted family dogs that easily fit into most households, large or small.

The north-eastern coastal state of Massachusetts was one of the first regions of the Americas where Europeans settled a few centuries ago. When settlers came to these shores, they often brought their canine companions along with them. There were two dogs on the Mayflower, and they didn’t take the long voyage from England just to keep their families company! Dogs were working animals in the early European settlements of Massachusetts, protecting livestock from wolves, foxes and other predators. Most of those first immigrant dogs were Mastiffs, Greyhounds and English Setters. By 1784, there were an estimated 30,000 dogs in the entire state.
