Known for its cheerful attitude and glossy flat black or liver coat, the Flat-Coated Retriever is popular as a hunting dog and a show dog. Slow to mature, these dogs need a patient owner who appreciates their long-lived puppyhood and can work on training activities every day. Flat-Coated Retrievers reach 60-70 pounds when fully grown, and their hunting background means they need lots of exercise and space to run and play.
