This stunning breed looks like the product of a retriever and a black sheep—covered in black or liver-coloured curly fur, the Curly-Coated Retriever weighs in at 60 to 95 pounds. More aloof and watchful than its more common retriever cousins, the Curly needs daily exercise and mental stimulation to feel at ease. Their thick coats are waterproof and protective against extreme cold as well as icy waters. Curly-Coated Retrievers love to swim!

Alaska is home to some of the great natural wonders of the world, and thanks to its dog-friendly culture, you can experience many of them together with your dog! Hike the trails at the Far North Bicentennial Park in Anchorage, or the Tongass National Forest in Juneau. Your dog will also love spending an afternoon at Connor’s Bog Dog Park in Anchorage, or at the Lake Lucille Dog Park in Wasilla. If you haven’t brought your own dog with you on an Alaskan holiday, look into special hiking (or sledding) excursions with cold-weather Huskies!
