The Chongqing dog is protective in its nature, and tihs temperament stems from its history as a guard and hunting dog. Even today, this breed is used as a police or military dog in China. Chongqing Dogs are loyal companions and can make excellent family guard dogs. However, these dogs can have a stubborn mindset, which can make them difficult to train.
