The Azawakh is a sighthound breed that originated from West Africa and is known for its elegant, lean build and exceptional speed. A highly protective and loyal dog, the Azawakh will form a strong bond with its family, making it an excellent family pet. However, its protective instincts mean that it can be wary with strangers and may require early socialization to avoid potentially overprotective behaviors. Their high energy and athleticism call for regular, stimulating exercise, so a household that loves outdoor activities would be ideal. Finally, this breed shed minimally and is fairly low-maintenance. Azawakhs are ideal for owners looking for an agile, independent, and distinctive pet.
