The Australian Kelpie is a hardworking and active dog that stands about 50 centimetres high and weighs between 16 and 23 kilograms. Originally descended from Scottish collies, the Australian Kelpie is better suited to the heat and dry conditions found in much of its adopted country. Given its heritage, the kelpie is instinctually eager to work with sheep and other pack animals, and it needs quite a bit of exercise. Clever, fun and loving, the Australian Kelpie makes the perfect companion to a human with similar energy levels and love of adventure. They are also good with families and never tire of playing with gentle children.

The Pennsylvania state dog is none other than the regal and formidable Great Dane, a dog breed that worked hard alongside its early European settler companions. The state legislature formalized the standing of the state dog in 1965, stating: "...WHEREAS, the physical and other attributes of the Great Dane, to wit: size, strength, beauty, intelligence, tolerance, courage, faithfulness, trustworthiness and stability exemplify those of Pennsylvania.” As for the household dog owners of Pennsylvania, their other favourites include Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and German Shepherds, plus a host of Doodle Dogs. Dog owners in the Keystone State enjoy access to miles and miles of dog-friendly hiking trails.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows has been an (almost) annual event since 1879.
Pennsylvania allows dogs at more than 50 of its state parks.
