Airedales, like all terriers, are high-energy dogs who are adaptable to warm or cool climates. Ranging from 50 to 70 pounds as adults, Airedale Terriers are easy to train and make great family dogs. Smart, agile and eager for companionship, these dogs enjoy hiking and taking part in other outdoor activities with their owners. Their wiry, short fur is easy on allergy sufferers, and their pleasant attitude is suitable for first-time dog owners.

The Pennsylvania state dog is none other than the regal and formidable Great Dane, a dog breed that worked hard alongside its early European settler companions. The state legislature formalized the standing of the state dog in 1965, stating: "...WHEREAS, the physical and other attributes of the Great Dane, to wit: size, strength, beauty, intelligence, tolerance, courage, faithfulness, trustworthiness and stability exemplify those of Pennsylvania.” As for the household dog owners of Pennsylvania, their other favourites include Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and German Shepherds, plus a host of Doodle Dogs. Dog owners in the Keystone State enjoy access to miles and miles of dog-friendly hiking trails.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows has been an (almost) annual event since 1879.
Pennsylvania allows dogs at more than 50 of its state parks.
