The happy and inquisitive Silky Terrier weighs in at about 4.5 kilograms and stands a petite 25 centimetres high at the shoulder. True to its name, this dog boasts long, luxurious and silky fur that reaches down to its feet. Keen and attentive, the Silky Terrier is bursting with more energy even than most of its terrier relations. These dogs require lots of play, games and activities to engage their bodies and sharp minds. Good with kids, families and other dogs, Silky Terriers are popular dogs at agility competitions.

The Pennsylvania state dog is none other than the regal and formidable Great Dane, a dog breed that worked hard alongside its early European settler companions. The state legislature formalized the standing of the state dog in 1965, stating: "...WHEREAS, the physical and other attributes of the Great Dane, to wit: size, strength, beauty, intelligence, tolerance, courage, faithfulness, trustworthiness and stability exemplify those of Pennsylvania.” As for the household dog owners of Pennsylvania, their other favourites include Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and German Shepherds, plus a host of Doodle Dogs. Dog owners in the Keystone State enjoy access to miles and miles of dog-friendly hiking trails.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows has been an (almost) annual event since 1879.
Pennsylvania allows dogs at more than 50 of its state parks.
