The Karelian Bear Dog, or Karjalankarhukoira, is a robust Finnish breed known for its fearless hunting abilities. Originally bred to track and hunt large game, including bears, these dogs are highly energetic and require extensive training and socialization. They are loyal and protective companions, making them ideal for experienced owners who can provide the necessary mental and physical stimulation. Due to their strong instincts, they may not be suitable for families with small children.

Alaska is home to some of the great natural wonders of the world, and thanks to its dog-friendly culture, you can experience many of them together with your dog! Hike the trails at the Far North Bicentennial Park in Anchorage, or the Tongass National Forest in Juneau. Your dog will also love spending an afternoon at Connor’s Bog Dog Park in Anchorage, or at the Lake Lucille Dog Park in Wasilla. If you haven’t brought your own dog with you on an Alaskan holiday, look into special hiking (or sledding) excursions with cold-weather Huskies!
